Poetry: How Firm A Foundation

Posted by Anthony Crumley

How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for you faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say, than to you He hath said,–
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

Fear not, I am with thee, O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, I will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by my gracious, omnipotent hand.

When thro’ fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee, I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.

E’en down to old age, all My people shall prove
My sov’reign, eternal, unchangeable love;
And when hoary hairs shall their temples adorn,
Like lambs they shall still in my bosom be borne.

The soul that on Jesus still leans for repose,
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, though all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no never, no never forsake!

Poetry: Break Thou The Bread Of Life

Posted by Anthony Crumley

Break Thou the bread of life, Dear Lord, to me
As Thou didst break the loaves beside the sea;
Beyond the sacred page I seek Thee, Lord;
My spirit pants for Thee, O living Word.

Bless Thou the truth, dear Lord, To me– to me–
As Thou didst bless the bread By Galilee;
Then shall all bondage cease, all fetters fall;
And I shall find my peace, My All in all.

Thou art the bread of life, O Lord, to me,
Thy holy Word the truth that saveth me;
Give me to eat and live with Thee above;
Teach me to love Thy truth, for Thou are love.

O send Thy Spirit, Lord, now unto me,
That He may touch my eyes, and make me see
Show me the truth concealed with-in Thy Word,
And in Thy book revealed I see the Lord.

Poetry: Take Time To Be Holy

Posted by Anthony Crumley

Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord;
Abide in Him always, and feed on His Word.
Make friends of God’s children; Help those who are weak;
Forgetting in nothing His blessing to seek.

Take time to be holy, the world rushes on;
Spend much time in secret with Jesus alone–
By looking to Jesus, like Him thou shalt be;
Thy friends in thy conduct His likeness shall see.

Take time to be holy, let Him be thy Guide,
And run not before Him, Whatever betide;
In joy or in sorrow, Still follow thy Lord,
And, looking to Jesus, still trust in His Word.

Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul;
Each tho’t and each motive beneath His control;
Thus led by His Spirit to fountains of love,
Thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

Poetry: Jesus Calls Us

Posted by Anthony Crumley

Jesus calls us; o’er the tumult of our life’s wild, restless sea,
Day by day His sweet voice soundeth, Saying, “Christian, follow Me.”

Jesus calls us from the worship of the vain world’s golden store,
From each idol that would keep us, Saying “Christian, love Me more.”

In our joys and in our sorrows, days of toil and hours of ease,
Still He calls, in cares and pleasures, “Christian, love Me more than these.”

Jesus calls us; by Thy mercies, Savior, may we hear Thy call,
Give our hearts to Thy obedience, serve and love Thee best of all.

Poetry: Till I Become Like Thee

Posted by Anthony Crumley

O Jesus, Saviour and my Lord, Who livest now in me,
Have Thou Thy way in all my life Till I become like Thee.

My way in life which Thou shalt choose, I know will be the best;
And thro’ the trust I have in Thee, My heart will find its rest.

Tho’ oft I cannot understand The way Thou leadest me;
I question not Thy way, O Lord, But leave it all to Thee.

When in Thine image I shall stand, Transformed to be like Thee;
What will it be with Thee to dwell Thro’ all eternity?
